Hi! I’m glad you stopped by!
My name is Amanda, and in many ways, my life has been pretty ordinary. I grew up in the Midwest, went to school, got a job, met Aaron, left that job and got another, got married (to Aaron), and bought a house.
We barely had the keys to our first house in hand when we started dreaming up projects to make this formerly owned, builder-grade house our home.
Things took a turn away from our ordinary life in December 2019. After turning 30 only just a few months earlier, I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer. All of our projects were put on hold as we were launched into the world of cancer treatment.
At different times throughout my diagnosis and treatment, people would tell me I was strong. I thought they were wrong. There were times I couldn’t muster the energy to get up to fill a water bottle, let alone tackle even the smallest task on our list of projects.
I was wrong. I was trying to understand strength with the wrong measure. One day, I got a little wink that reminded me:
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13
When I only look to my physical body for strength, I’ll always be limited, but when I look to God for strength, it knows no bounds.
From this nudge, my vision for Away from Ordinary became clearer. This is a space where I am able to share all the things I do with the strength I find as I move toward life after cancer.
Whether you’re here for the DIYs or my cancer journey, I hope I can inspire and empower you to find your strength, too.
P.S. I’d love to connect with you! Send me an email at amanda@awayfromordinary.com or come say hi on Facebook or Instagram! =)
